Why do we need a new library?

Interlochen Public Library has seen a dramatic increase in use as Green Lake Township continues to grow, out-pacing other areas in Grand Traverse County.

Why can’t the current library be renovated?

The current pole barn-style building is 30 years old. The cost of repairs and renovations needed to meet the growing needs of residents is estimated at a minimum of $1.2  million.

Will this project raise property taxes?

No. The new building will be built with $2.5 in private funds and grants raised through the New Building Campaign. The land will be leased from Green Lake Township for $250 a year.

Where will the new library be located?

The new library will be on the corner of M-137 and 10th Ave., adjacent to the Green Lake Township offices. The library will become the anchor for a village center as outlined in the township and village smart growth plans.

When will the new library be built?

Ground will be broken on August 23, 2017. Plans are to move into the new building in the summer of 2018.
